We have set up a tentative schedule for the entire year, so if the current class schedule doesn’t work for you, a later class session may fit into your plans.

This is a fabulous class for the oil painter with some experience, or even a lot of experience. David’s philosophical approach to painting strategy would be an eye-opener and an asset to any painter, or painter-to-be. This class will have you painting fresher and freer with an expressive and meditative paint quality. Taking David’s class is a nurturing gift of love to your creative self.
Class meets for 6 consecutive Tuesdays from 1:30 to 4:30PM. The cost is $140.00. Supply list available at Hilo Art & Glass Supply. Painting in the Taoist sense starts on Tuesday Feb 27th.
David invites you to participate in these informal painting sessions as a wonderful addition or follow-up to one of his classes. While not strictly instructed, David’s students can paint with moral support, philosophical interjections, and like-minded folks in a lovely environment free from distraction. This is an excellent way to commit some time to painting in an inspiring studio and furthering your skills. Students may purchase a punch card for four sessions for $60.00. The four sessions must be completed within 2 months from date of purchase.
Glass Fusing is one of the easiest methods for working with hot glass to make objects and art! Join Eva for this eye-opener of a class where students will learn to cut, shape, and arrange glass to melt or “fuse” it into one gorgeous piece. During this intro level class, students will make several small pieces that can be used in jewelry, nightlights, and small dishes. The class takes place on four consecutive Fridays from 5PM to 8PM, starting Feb 23rd. the cost of the class is $130.00 ($120.00 for EHCC members) with a $30.00 supply fee paid in class to cover all materials and firing costs. This is an open studio session for Kerri’s existing students. Though not formally instructed, this session is an excellent way for students who have taken Kerri’s classes to work on their own paintings with Kerri close at hand to offer guidance. By purchasing a 3 session punch card for $45.00, students may attend three days of Kerri’s open studio. She will have two long Seasons of open studio; the first from Feb 21st to June 6th, the second from July 18 to Nov 21st. Studio time purchased in the first season expires June 6th, and cards purchased in the second season expire Nov 21st.
Kerri is a wealth of important information about watercolor painting. She will demonstrate an impressive breadth of watercolor techniques and materials to jump-start your watercolor experience. All supplies are included in this introduction to painting watercolor on paper. Students will experience a variety of papers, colors and brushes in order to expand their knowledge and understanding of the many possibilities in watercolor.
The class takes place on three consecutive Wednesdays from 10AM to 1PM. The cost is $60 and it starts Feb 21st.
This is the most comfortable, enlightening, common sense way to learn to paint with oils. David Hubbard, master of glazing, renowned colorist, and Taoist philosopher, teaches this class for beginners. David will show students how to strategically tackle a sophisticated painting while helping them maintain the child-like joy of painting. With the right materials and instruction, oil paint can be the easiest, most versatile and beautiful medium to work with.

This is your chance to play with fire and have something beautiful to show for it! Learn to make glass beads in a torch in this neat class for everyone. This one-weekend class will give you a jump start in hot glass by introducing glass bead technique. This is one of the least expensive ways to work in hot glass, and is a great introduction to lampwork (that’s what working with a torch is called) which opens a world of possibility in glass art. The class happens over one weekend from 2PM – 5PM on Saturday and Sunday. The cost is $130.00 ($120.00 for EHCC members) and all supplies are included. Call the EHCC at 961-5711 to sign up.
Thought you weren’t born with it? Always wished you had learned to draw, but thought it was too late? This is the class for you! Jacob Medina can teach anyone to draw with more skill. Believe it or not, drawing involves specific observational skills that are easily learned by anyone who can sign their name. Give your inner artist some vocabulary, and you’ll be amazed what she says to you! This class is the key to art’s cornerstone medium, the pencil. The class takes place over four consecutive Thursdays from 4PM to 6PM, starting Feb 22nd. The cost is $75.00. Supply list available at Hilo Art & Glass Supply.

This is an excellent class for students with some experience in drawing who want to take their drawing to the next level. Bob Dittbenner, renown for his ultra-realistic drawings, will help you to refine your drawings in order to elevate them from sketches to works of art. Bob will lead students through the depths and details of “chiarro-scurro” or the use of light and dark, focus and obscurity. Tap his years of experience as you learn to develop and sophisticate your drawings.
The class takes place over four consecutive Saturdays from 1PM to 3PM, starting Feb 24th. The cost is $75.00.
